How Does Your Water Footprint Add Up?

By Ideas Lab Staff March 22, 2013

World Water Day is held annually on March 22.

Did you know the United States uses 660,430 gallons of water per person each year? That’s twice the average worldwide, and the U.S. ranks among the top five nations with the highest water usage.

These facts, among others, were released in an infographic by GE Power & Water in honor of World Water Day, which is acknowledged annually on March 22 to focus attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for sustainable management of freshwater resources. The international day was recommended at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, and the United Nations General Assembly designated March 22, 1993 as the first World Water Day, according to an informational website about the event.
